55 N. 22nd St. SLA or the Science Leadership Academy, contrary to popular belief, does not solely have a science based curriculum. Instead we use a basic system that allows us to analyze, question, and critique such as scientists do. If you’ve ever been inside our building, you’ll notice that our Mission and Vision is made evident to the students and faculty. “How do we learn? What can we create? What does it mean to lead?” These are three principle questions that we encourage all staff to ask of the students when they explore any new and captivating idea. We pride ourselves on giving our students the resources to customize their own learning and enable them to claim their education. When the desire is there, the passion follows suit.

At SLA, a project based school, we make it our priority to incorporate the core values and Grade Themes into our learning. We utilize these questions and terms in such a manner that allows us to guide ourselves through our experiences in and outside of the classroom. Conventional learning isn’t evident at SLA. Syllabus, textbooks, tests isn’t how new ideas are formed. This was exactly what the principal and founder Mr. Chris Lehman was trying to avoid. He wanted to create leaders not conformers and within this project you will get a glimpse at how these questions are answered personally by me and by others past projects. To answer these questions you have to make and do, and tests simply don’t allow for that individualistic thinking.
